Meet Our Teacher
"I believe that play is the foundation for all future learning."
Hello, my name is Shawna Ketch and I would like to welcome you to the Tilley Tiger Cubs Preschool. I will take this opportunity to introduce myself to the parents in the community who are bringing your children to us in the fall.
Tilley was my home when I was a small child. I had my first school experience here when I attended kindergarten. I also had two sets of grandparents who lived here both of which would care for me while my mother went to work as librarian at the Tilley School. I still have family ties in the community.
I have my Level II Child Development Worker Certificate in Early Learning and Child Care from Bow Valley College. I have also been nominated twice for the Alberta Child Care Professional Awards of Excellence and have been employed by Tilley Preschool for two years but I have worked in the field of Early Childhood for the past eleven years. I hold memberships with the Medicine Hat District Child Care Association as well as the Southern Alberta Preschool Teachers Association. I try hard to attend a conference once a year as well as workshops and courses so I can keep current and motivated.
I have a passion for teaching and I believe that play is the foundation for all future learning. This is because play is the best medium for children to actively construct their own understanding through hands on exploration, discovery and interaction with others. I also believe that children are more likely to become truly engaged in experiences that are personally interesting and meaningful to them; just like any adult. This is why when planning learning activities for the children I teach, I take into consideration the children’s interests, levels of development, particular needs and individual learning styles. Then each week I will provide play activities for all areas of development which include social, fine & gross motor, cognitive, creative and emotional development. There will be a balance of teacher directed and child initiated activities as well as both open-ended and structured activities. Subjects that will be included are science, pre-math, language, literacy, art, music, dramatic play and pre-printing. Put all together we will have and amazing program!
I am looking forward to a fun filled year and am very eager to meet your children and get to know all the new families as well as welcome back a few students from last year.
